Goodbye, Joe Caldwell
Sad news from Dark Shadows fan, Bob Issel. Dark Shadows writer Joe Caldwell has passed away at age 97.
From Bob: "I'm sad to report that Dark Shadows writer Joe Caldwell (age 97) passed away yesterday morning (July 13th) after suffering a massive stroke.
Joe, who was born on Oct. 2nd, 1928, first joined the Dark Shadows writing staff in May of 1967, and is credited along with good friend and fellow Dark Shadows writer Ron Sproat, as developing the character of Barnabas Collins.
On a personal note, over the last several years, Joe was kind enough to sign several copies of his Memoir, 'In The Shadow of the Bridge' for the raffles held at Seaview Terrace(Collinwood) in conjunction with the gatherings I hosted there. He would sign each copy 'Dark Shadows Forever!!' Joe had just signed a handful of his Memoirs for me three weeks ago back on June 20th. At that time he was convalescing at a rehab center after having a recent fall.
Rest in Peace, Joe"
EDIT: I believe Joe was the last surviving Dark Shadows writer, although I have not been able to confirm whether or not Ralph Ellis, who wrote two episodes, is still with us. If anyone knows, please let me know.
